Advent Prayer Reflection: Week One

PROMISE

The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and Judah. Jeremiah 33:14

Thanksgiving ends, Advent begins and we await the joy of Christmas...or do we??Unfortunately, it is too easy to get caught in the shopping for Christmas and miss the quiet anticipation of the promised Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord. Jeremiah foretold what we know - God sent His Son as pure gift to redeem us. As we begin our preparations for Christmas, perhaps we can more fully appreciate the anticipation that is Advent. This year, maybe we can remember to live with that expectant faith of the coming of Christ, anew in our hearts, with fire in the world, and in the final days when we may join Him in the new creation. When we make our Christmas list this year, let's remember to put the most priceless gift of all at the very top - Jesus Christ himself. It might make the rest of the list seem a little less important...

O Come, O Come Emmanuel!
